The DS1 status is completely useless if you want to use an anti-Vib spider to the NT1A - the base of the DS1 is not designed for this weight, even though the manufacturer recommends this - very disappointing. The DS1 is not stabilized and at slightly more agitated tables you have to constantly pay attention to precise alignment otherwise the Complete construction lands on the ground.
The MD5 has a much more important to prevent base than the DS-1 and is provided with wide Standpads the accidentally slip and thus super-stable. Personally, I find him much more charming and more suitable for a "desk-stand" as the DS1.
If you want to use a tripod for a Rode NT1 Desk-A with spider then I can only recommend the MD5 - the height can be compensated with a base or with an adjustable office chair.
