This first novel is a success and bodes a brilliant writer who should confirm his talent and maturity up in future books, because I hope there will be new books. We find in this first novel all the right ingredients of a good book that deftly combines the light side of the "novel" that speaks of simple people with specific side of "history" as it unfolded. This double reading is felt best when the author speaks of the spatial conquest, the advance that had the Russians over the Americans at that time and the importance of the Russian soul as a major reason for the great success. To the question on why Russia lost the Cold War, the hero says, "because it was just cold," and that the Russian soul needs heat to fight his difficult environment. Writing allows easy reading and gives way to emotion. It is sometimes close to poetry to Pagnol. I just have one small regret: that the author is a little too wise. Make it more loose in his next book and draw near to perfection. Congratulations for this first book
