The most important thing in my view here:
- A resolution madness!
- Excellent color neutrality!
- Knackscharf into the corners!
- Even at full aperture super power!
- A (smoothest) bokeh that makes addicted to portrait shots (my wife complained already :-)) and basically to experiment with the depth of field / exemption!
- The feel is - albeit plastic - beyond any doubt (comparable to the new 16-35 F4 L)!
Have the objective initially used 2 1/2 years on the 60d. In addition to great macro shots (with tripod, IS OFF) it served me especially in portrait and small group shots. The Auto Focus always sat bombig and the IS was a great help especially in low-light shots with correspondingly long exposure times.
100mm on APS-C sensor are indeed significantly more (160 mm) as a classic portrait lens focal length image. In this respect, many of my shot with the 60D Portraits are unnoticed recordings from increased distance for the person.
For almost a year now I use the lens on a 6d. I was already very excited, so there was an enthusiasm thrust again.
a) In the portrait area:
- I am - by eliminating the crop factor again closer to the living subject. This reminds me of the pre-digital Protraitfotografieren (focal lengths from 80 to 100 mm) with small screen. Now the "dialogue" with the object is much more important! Secret Format-filling portraits succeed only rarely.
- The autofocus performs in conjunction with the central cross-type sensor of 6 d to great results. He sits as good as ever, even when shooting handheld with longer exposure times.
- Low-light: initial aperture 2.8 and IS in combination with moderate cross the sensor 6d and high ISO capability with low noise simply a super combined. Because everything is from the 100 / 2.8 macro L rausgeholt!
b) In the macro area:
- Even when the 6d applies: Tripod use good quality. IS made possible. Focus on the middle cross-type sensor. Previously loaded the EOS remotely from your smartphone or tablet and thus upright (not only good for back pain victims of the older generation! Dependents) without folding screen the hotocompositions have full control.
All in all: None of my Canon (L) and Tamron lenses comes close to the optical power of 100 / 2.8 macro L in the range of application. For portrait and Macro in a glass, there are currently at Canon and other manufacturers no serious alternative! An APS-C and full frame equally great use!
