With "Maleficent" he has surpassed himself. He shakes grandiose melodies effortlessly out of his sleeve, so that they get stuck already at the first hearing in the ear. He weaves the whole orchestra (especially the strings!) A beautiful tapestry of sound, accompanied by choirs and some electronics. All this is still very varied, from poetic / minimalist to romantic / epic about brachial / action-heavy. It's really all this and again the soundtrack vibrates to dizzying heights on that cause goose bumps.
The song by Lana del Rey is not a useless extra, but a continuation of similar instrumentation that brings the soundtrack to a fitting close.
I am absolutely thrilled. Currently it seems in Hollywood a small renaissance in the truest sense of the word "classic" to give soundtracks (also recommended: Godzilla). I hope this trend continues. Meanwhile it is often the same sounding film music from the room factory but weary.
