In connection with the Sigma EX 30 / 1.4 DC HSM is called very often from a "normal lens". Normal lenses were in the old analog photography bright Always plan lenses with a focal length to 50mm. These were then used universally for all shooting situations. The Sigma reached on a dSLR with crop sensor (EOS 350D / EOS400D / EOS 20/30 / 40D) with the Canon typical extension factor of 1.6 then 48mm actually. A "normal lens" it will, however, in my view, absolutely not, because at the focal length end the alleged Normalobjetiv properties.
I own the Sigma EX 30 / 1.4 DC HSM since it is on the market, but I use it absolutely not universal, or as a "normal lens". That's just what this lens has too many quirks. The lens delivers excellent results at close range down to distances of four meters, and this in particular in difficult lighting situations. I use the Sigma therefore particularly for atmospheric indoor shots, mainly for creating portraits without photographic additional light sources.
Where the use of an orifice of 1.4 is always very risky. Who goes to the limits of the possible approach that can be expected and must be expected as a consequence of Committee no 100% strength results. For the interior shots in difficult lighting conditions represented by me it then does not matter that the Sigma EX 30 1.4 falls towards the margins in the image quality, which is however only noticeable if you zoom such a photo on the PC to get a bigger view and just looking.
Around the Sigma EX 30 1.4 the question is asked often why why Sigma has not been to the edge of the lens more trouble. The question is easy to answer: This lens was obviously optimized from the start on taking pictures in difficult lighting situations and provides therefore in the center -on which here usually ankommt- excellent sharpness. Any further optimizing the lens would probably expensive such an extent that it hardly would have found buyers. In this respect, I use the Sigma EX 30 / 1.4 DC HSM for what it is, a special lens for difficult lighting situations at close range to four meters. I'm not saying that you can not use the Sigma for everything else, or should. But if they have alternative wide-angle lenses, you should not do with the 30s Sigma the landscapes provide.
The Sigma is a well processed, visual treat. From the feel of it is a lot better off than, say, a Canon EF 50 1.4. The central focus is awesome. However, it is neither normal nor a universal lens. Anyway, I give the Sigma EX 30 / 1.4 DC HSM no longer here and leave here five star.
