The Colour and the Shape

First, some background facts: The Colour and the Shape was published in 1997, 2 years after the recorded by Dave Grohl alone "Foo Fighters". The band was then off course- Dave Grohl (vocals, guitar), Nate Mendel (bass plays even now when the FF), William Goldsmith (drums), and Pat Smear on second guitar, who also directed the people Nirvana know, a term his sollte.Goldsmith and smear the way out by Taylor Hawkins (drums) and Chris Shiflett (guitar) were soon replaced and the current lineup until today was perfect.
Now the album: The pretty peaceful "Doll" opens and ends after about one and a half minutes in the well-known classic "Monkey Wrench" You can already see during these first few minutes that you are dealing with a great piece of music. The incredible energy that goes into Grohl's songs can still be found if one disregards the single "Walking After You", which is the most beautiful Popmoment all earlier Foo Fighters plants, in a word, in almost each of the songs: great. Grohl manages here to submit a sugar-sweet melody without drifting into unnecessary kitsch. But this masterpiece would would wronged you make this or that song over another because hereby ausdrücklichst pointed to this album, was it, no failure is. And Bonus Tracks also on this the tenth anniversary of The Colour and the Shape published Special Edition contained "Requiem", "Drive Me Wild", "Down in the Park", "Baker Street" (Cover - originally from Gerry Rafferty) and the questionable as not on the original version of the disc title track contained that comes along very aggressively, which would be hardly noticed by bombs as "Enough Space" and "Wind Up" to which the former Nirvana drummer maltreated his vocal chords properly. Overall, however, find the strongest moments all in the field of melodic rock songs for Grohl is simply predestined, like "Everlong" (for many of the Foo Fighters song par excellence), "February Stars", which is set up for several minutes carefully and then euphoric in a to lead the chorus, or even the wonderful "My Hero" (Live a killer track: have myself convinced !!). Even after more than 10 years, this album is the benchmark in the alternative guitar music. David Grohl has landed here with his men, a union which he never again will probably surpass.
