I was impressed the vocal variety in different positions, and, yes, of course, these huge vocal range. A clean intonation three Oktoven testifies to a very good education, though apparently no classical training. First off, sing to the sound, only then possibly a slight vibrato, and do not look with a pronounced vibrato sound, as today 'fastfood singers' unfortunately practically common.
The wing fits so perfectly to accompany that he did not notice.
After a short search, I then bought the CD and was very surprised.
Had told me in advance what's coming to me, I would have the CD probably will not buy:
- Songs of Tom Waits (it's in the original already hundreds)
- HR Big Band as backing group (!)
- A woman singing Tom Waits
Everyone I told them, also put spontaneously his brow furrowed.
But, sappalot that everything fits together perfectly. The arrangements of the HR Big Band are so sensitively set that the band never stands in the foreground, but the voice always emphasizes.
The expressive voice of Rebekka Bakken, from rough to velvety, speaks for itself, you just have to hear once.
The courage to tackle this project, certainly to many concerns in the run-up, testifies in my eyes not of a pronounced hubris but of great expertise.
The production is also technically succeeded. An excellent, modern recording quality and a clean mixing testifies to quality craftsmanship across the board.
A very nice CD, for me, the newcomer of the year.
The old master will like it.
