The DVD of Master Tronic contains the first 4 parts of the Tomb Raider series.
I have long searched for information if the games run on my Windows 7 64-bit system. Then I just ordered - and lo and behold:
Everything runs smoothly - even the first part! You have to not having trouble with the configuration of the DOS box - this is unnoticed installed and configured in the background.
Only the setup routine which starts automatically made funny business with me. These wanted to install Adobe Flash Player, although already had the latest version of it. Without the so went no further. So I started all over Tombrun.exe on the DVD - and found a tidy selection screen. Each of the 4 parts can be installed from here after installing the button "Install" are grayed out and "play" can be selected. From here you can start in the future each of the parts.
The setup is also available in German, the game then but only in English. But does not interfere further, because keeping the dialogue anyway within limits)
What Tomb Raider 1 is concerned:
In the installation directory, you can configure the DOS box on tr1settings.exe. I get the best results with the following settings:
Display: Full Screen
Full Screen Size: Original
Window Size: Original
Output: ddraw
Graphics emulation: VGA
-> In the game you can then use the F1 key to improve the graphics.
If someone else gets better results with another output, I would be interested. But it already looks so real good!
When I'm in retro mood once again, it's just great to bring my very first PC game of the past back to life, only to move on the first part by Natla catacombs or in the second part with the boat through Venice to die , In Part 3 to trudge through the London Underground system or in part 4 through the desert - which has yet really more flair!
These are still games where the content and not only the graphics in the foreground - even if part 3 and 4 look awesome even today in the highest resolution!
All in all, a great solution to bring Lara classic back to life on modern computers!
