But to feel is actually that Leonard Cohen's songs, his song had become poems, worked with incredible care. There sits every word, every note acts lovingly placed. Although this was in principle for all Cohen albums so far, if one of the verhunzten of producer Phil Spector "Death of a Ladies Man" (1977) once apart, but to "Old ideas" reached the attention to detail to new heights. It was not expected that the silent Canadians serves up some half-baked eight years after his last album "Dear Heather" his audience. That it would be a consistently good album, could be safely assume. But just well it is not. "Old ideas" is once again a masterpiece. Still, careful, intense, thought and feeling full.
In the best sense of the word, the twelfth album is exactly what you'd expect from Leonard Cohen. Not in the sense of service providing fulfillment of expectations, but Gerechtwerdung a high claim. He reinvents itself with 77 not new, this was neither reason nor occasion, but he proves that perfection is never a conclusion fulfilling measure.
Very clear recommendation to this edition: 180g vinyl with large booklet + CD in a simple slip case, for only a few euros more than the simple CD-edition. Especially as an album like this as a record only unfolds the right charm.
