Often drummers tend upon presentation of such bass pattern to play radio or rock grooves that are typical for the fusion jazz. Not so the drumming legend Jojo Mayer: His grooves are always "jazzy" and impulsive. The interplay of bass and drums is unique! Through his experiences from the elekronischen drum'n'bass area Jojo Mayer, the classic jazz grooves compress strong and at any time to vary "Kicks" to play along or to respond to the musicians during the saxophone or bass solos. The latter, I would like again to emphasize: I have seldom a jazz band is one in which the musicians complement each other (especially in Soli) well so incredible - all three musicians are always "in the matter", to hear what the other does and react accordingly. Especially the interaction of Jojo Mayer and Harry Sokal has during some saxophone solos almost scary good.
Harry Sokal's virtuoso solos are without overwhelming the listener. He makes short breaks repeatedly, displaying its game by even greater effect. When he's not playing solo, he gives the songs their beautiful, partly catchy melodies suitable.
