The hitherto weakest album of Calexico

Customer Review

Unfortunately, this album is extremely unambitious! It should sound new, but this works in any single song. Spasmodic an attempt is at Calexico-style which could be the last decades indeed selling well to hold. Space for real expansion of the Calexico-cosmos remains no one there. The frequent synth snippets of the songs come very on the retro wave washed therefore, sometimes hard on the border with embarrassment. Also embarrassing time previously in Calexico always exciting Bläsersätze. This would partly quite Musikantenstadel compatible.

Most of the songs is very unimaginative, it was already all times much better. The song structures act carelessly knocked together. No musical suspense, the songs seem to come from nowhere and ends nowhere. If it is then not even more for "Nothing" is sufficient, there is a fade-out.

The sound quality was actually never in Calexico so inferior! The album sounds as a whole as highly compressed MP3 tracks. A sonic mush without any dynamism and vitality.

Joey Burns and John Convertino should treat yourself to a few years break, reflect on your creativity and then Ünerlegen whether that has maybe gone "brand" Calexico already dead and if not rather the time has come for something really new.
