Customer Review

I remember it exactly, in 1981 I bought the LP directly on the release date. I was then 12 years old. It was a sunny day in August, and my grandmother gave me twenty marks. I immediately ran to the record store of our small town, put on 17,95 DM Thresen and grabbed the long-awaited new Stones album "Start Me Up" - of course, without listening to me before (honor).
Back home, I puts on the plate and was from the same name Opener completely blown away. It has rocked the. But "Hang Fire" and "Little T & A" (with Keith on vocals), two beautiful up-tempo numbers, just kept right mood for more. And as a young, aspiring guitarist who had you at that time, found himself on the disc a lot of new stuff that you had to re-enact the same.
Then I put on the B-side. And it must have looked pretty stupid, as I sat with my mouth open in front of the turntable. Without the needle plate depose I heard the side by a. With "Worried About" shone Jagger for the second time (after Emotional Rescue) with his falsetto. In chorus with Keith truly the sun rises. Even today, one that song for me to the best, to the Glimmer Twins have ever written. "Tops "is a lovely relaxed, very soulful number. The guys running it easy. The guitar sound is brilliant. Whatever the sound of Keith and Ronnie on this disc is sensational (as the whole disk), which is partly due to the interplay between the two, which experiences its perfection here. Here not just play one the rhythm and the other the lead part. Both play their thing, but do it to be completely complementary. Alexis Korner called Keith once considered the best worst guitarists. What he meant by that, is clear here: Keith playing simple chords. But it does no one.
In the following (last) three titles the Stones make (again) something else. "Heaven" (again with Jaggers head voice) fascinated by his formally floating beat that of an exciting (because concise and quiet) riff of Keith supported. Jaggers head voice and the numerous vocal overdubs invite the listener to a beautiful psychedelic, but hell grooving a trip. The song takes on a clever elements of the New Wave of the Eighties. This was new. It was up to date. For a band that has almost 20 years of service at that time had behind him respect.
"No Use in Crying" is not quite as strong (ok, another famous B-side "The Beatles - Abbey Road". Also has a trailer). This song is something to suffering. With "Waiting on Friend" on the other hand have the Stones wrote another classic. A song that probably have dedicated themselves to Mick and Keith. True friendship lasts a lifetime. Just as this song will probably never wear. Great reef, great piano and even the saxophone solo, the one today so as no longer can bring (because easy to moderately-80s) make this song to a small work of art.
All in all: "Start Me Up" is not for nothing called the "last best" Stones disc. You can hear the disk (or CD) to the ears of the 80, this is more evident: timeless songs with superb arrangements and displayed extraordinary sound.
If the disc now on my turntable, I feel like back then, at the said date in August 1981, when I gave my grandmother the coal for this masterpiece - light, carefree and happy that there are such boards. Thank you Keith, thank you Mick, thank you grandma.
