Starting with "Invaders" is still kept quite classic. I for one can still very much hear Punk in this number - more of a speedy, slightly trashy affair and I think actually the weakest track on this great body of work.
"Children Of The Damned", however, begins unusually "quiet" and worn, but developed very fact enormous atmosphere and increases continuously, with the refrain by the then rookie Bruce Dickinson (vocals) become again into a kind of intermediate highlight. From back to front a fantastic number.
"The Prisoner" begins with a conversation sequence in which it comes to freedom and freedom ("... I'm not a number, I'm a free man ..." - followed by peals of laughter breaks out) goes, and believe in Subsequently, with a good text. Musically I find the track quite ok, but not outstanding.
"22 Acacia Avenue" is obviously an address to which one goes if you want to break down (in all its forms impossible) (n) frustration. A good musical reacted song duchaus also stimulates to think ...
"The Number Of The Beast" is quite simply a bombastic track, almost literally a beast of a song, the irresistible soars to ever new heights - with the power of an entire nuclear arsenal! Nightmare sequences are worked Lyrically here. For me to be the allerallerbeste Maiden song ever! Perhaps some sort of "Satisfaction" by the band (you may please me see this daring comparing two graciously!)
"Run To The Hills" is also a classic and still frequent component of live sets. Music & text fit perfectly in turn to each other, this time it is very critical and unverblühmt to the genocide of the Native Americans - brave to be trusted something (even for a British band) !!
"Gangland" tells accordingly "hectic", almost recited breathlessly musical (but very, very well done) from the hard life in the midst of gang warfare. Also very well done!
"Total Eclipse" lives primarily from its great main riff that shines through again and again. A very atmospheric piece that stands out in turn by magnificent interpretation on the part of the band.
"Hallowed By The Name" you can, I think, probably safely be called a classic. Also commonly found in live sets (additional show end). Tells the story of a convicted person on the way to the gallows. Includes many interesting and successful exchange (acting here but not too tricky and playful). Is the longest track on the album.
Overall, THE NUMBER OF THE BEAST is therefore composed of 9 tracks, giving a total running time of over 40 minutes. Small side note about this: Interestingly, all times on the CD-back wrong (apart from a few exceptions) - is the intention, or was it really a mistake ?? Some songs take actually equal to one or two minutes longer than is indicated here. Well, yes does not matter ...
NEW was groundbreaking in many ways in this album alongside vocalist Dickinson (the same furious struck - great vocal performances) and the noticeable attempt by the band, from the speed-trash metal-punk (if I may call it that now times) the first two works wegzubegeben a bit and bring a little more atmosphere and life and "solidity" in the songs. Obviously you have to really seriously examined the respective song content and related musical interpretation. It has been here as a listener actually always feel something (in his own way) to hear Perfect - great!
ALT is, however, then still the drummer, namely Clive Burr, the soon to be replaced by a certain Nicko McBrain. Mr. Burr makes then but a world-class job - Kudos !!
Ums songwriting has largely of "band dad" and bassist Steve Harris care, where he occasionally also Smith and Dave Murray and Clive Burr who stood by (primarily).
Conclusion: In contrast to its predecessors, acts THE NUMBER OF THE BEAST clearly thoughtful and mature (in a positive sense, of course), but has at the same time still over any rough edges, which then felt breathe the songs live and also tidy dynamics and atmospheric explosive worry. Also production technology here was so masterly done !!
I like so for example, the alleged "commercial" and "smooth" Somewhere in Time (published 1986) and Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son (1988 published) very good (really - you can also like to read about in the local Rezis if you want) , total but I like THE NUMBER OF THE BEAST better because it the fact hitherto impossible balancing act between technical perfection and hard Rock music playfully creates a unique and unprecedented way, which by the way some of the greatest Maiden compositions of all time then the light the rock world could see.
This milestone of metal (but also of rock history in general) made it clear quasi in a Aufwisch which musical-technical standards were henceforth for hard music without but the outside to let any poetry before that each of then published pieces clearly ( or rather audible) resides.
THE NUMBER OF THE BEAST is one of those albums that really a smooth take your shoes - all the enthusiasm understood !!
And I - actually not even the giant's huge metal fan - would the disc without further also 6 or 7 star concede, if this were possible ... Here I must content myself with just 5!
In fact, the 3rd studio album of Iron Maiden is in many ways almost historic. Probably one of the most important, if not the most important metal album of all time, which in the course of time (over 30 years ago that is now - incredible) NOTHING but also absolutely nothing and of his class, his passion, his originality lost vitality has !!
THE NUMBER OF ... must therefore stay away under any circumstances a well-run rock music library. Do yourself a favor, dear music lovers (and I mean all buyers) to !!!, and put out immediately this classic (this designation is here for once entirely appropriate) in rock history
Simply magnificent and indispensable!
