On the technical figures, I will not go into at this point, as these are likely to be known. I have not bought this set from Amazon, but gifted. Still, I would like to introduce my settings:
employed Interface: Behringer XENYX Q802USB
inserted Computer: ACER Aspire V3 (Intel Core i7, 8GB RAM, Samsung mSATA SSD 840 EVO, Windows 8.1 64bit)
Software used: Studio One FREE Edition (in 64bit mode)
employed Microphone: Rode NT-1A
The microphone is including shockmount and pop screen into place on a 25 microphone stand with boom and there makes a good figure. The stand should not be "low", since the entire construct has a good weight.
The processing of the microphone and its accessories (shockmount, pop filter, XLR cable, storage bag) are lonely and top quality. Neither scratches nor errors in the paint can be found. That's how it should be.
The XLR cable is 5m long and very well insulated / shielded. Right here can not be saved. For me an important and encouraging point: The microphone is Made in Australia.
for handling a few tips:
BEFORE the microphone is powered (24V phantom power or 48V), the cables should be connected. The phantom power ONLY works with XLR to XLR connector. BEFORE the microphone is broken, the power should be switched off. It is also pointed out in the "package insert." The guarantee can not grab here otherwise.
On the front of the microphone is to find "golden point". This serves as a reference point for alignment due to the directivity. The microphone is in the "bottom plate" of the shock mounts "screwed. The golden point showed me until firmer screws in the direction of Popschutzes. The" cage "(Shock Mount) is fixed with rubber bands. When unpacking this had fallen from the hook and had again only be fixed. This is not a problem and should get each solved. In the accompanying instructional video is to see that you can achieve special effects by a specific change of orientation. The pop screen can be folded away or completely remove and is the RØDE logo decorated.
A friend has told me that the volume of the interface should be kept as low as possible in order to avoid noise. This tip I have followed and have the gain set at approximately 5dB. The recording volume of the sound card is set with me 100%. The built-in interface compressor I do not use. Treble, mid and lows are with me on 0 and the volume of the channel is also set to 0. This does not mean that the channel has no volume. I sometimes also simultaneously receiving guitar and vocals, each channel should get a private Paning. This means that the first channel fully to the left and the second is completely "panned" to the right. So I can parallel record. That worked perfectly, without me "twice" added the sound of the guitar. The recording quality of the sound card is set to "DVD quality".
The microphone is often portrayed as the quietest mic in the world. I can confirm that! A noise can not be heard even at higher dB numbers. These are my experiences that are different from interface to interface with security. Here you should just try. Very fittingly is hearing your own voice on the monitor output. It may be necessary here in the used software or the driver of the interface still a setting / activation are made.
I have added my voice about 15cm away from the microphone, taking advantage of the pop screen. If you want a sound sample or has questions, should feel free to contact me.
As a final tip: The cardboard is due to the thick cardboard as a super storage.
