I'm usually not a fan of Super zoom lenses! In Wide Scroll extreme and the telephoto they act mushy. Everything in between is it then not light strong enough. Why I decided nevertheless for the 14-150? It is my video lens! Of course I've tested it extensively.
Wide: It starts at 14mm and an aperture of 4.0. At one FT-camera results in a picture angle of 28mm. The depth of field corresponds to an aperture of 8.0.
Normally, one would expect an extreme distortion here at 14mm. But somehow Olympus has it that this does not really stand hingekriegt or not created. The distortion would reveal themselves in the so-called pillow shape, but hardly does it! Only if one exploits the minimum focusing distance is extremely short with 500mm.
Telephoto: I expect at telephoto focal lengths from 100mm. So the range 100-150mm. This corresponds to a field of 200-300mm. In this area, you'd expect a slightly muddy picture which is possibly even very low in contrast. Wrong! Again Olympus shows what you can do with a superzoom. It seems already at f 5.6 to be so well corrected that one really has a completely clean image! And is 300mm with a minimum focusing distance of 500mm almost a macro!
The area in between: Everything is not the wide angle or telephoto is, as expected enormously well. There is nothing to complain about or noticing!
Video feature: Lenses are designed for videography particular have a feature. They are extremely quiet! The problem: If you use a normal lens so distinguishes the microphone not only the AF noise but also on any zoom noise. And this must not be underestimated! They are so loud that one understands any more votes.
Therefore, the manufacturers bring (Olympus and Panasonic) lenses out are very quiet. In the Olympus 14-150mm apparently the maximum rausgeholt. Must listen to the AF motor still this really work a lot and the environment must be tremendously softly. When zooming you can hear only a faint clunk when you arrive at 14 or 150mm. This performance would give an extra point.
Disadvantages: With all due praise, there are also disadvantages which are attributable to the construction. It is not particularly bright. Although this is normal for a superzoom, but it should be mentioned. A further disadvantage lies in length. Through the slightly larger zoom range the lens has naturally a certain excess length. For example, the camera can hold at video better, but at a μFT it looks pretty stupid. For this you need a μFT body in the DSLR look like the Panasonic G2 (with the lens is compatible).
Conclusion: It is highly recommended. I myself use it usually only for videos, but now it is thanks to the outstanding performance of my "Always top". Absolute buy recommendation!
