First highlight: Characters
Thomas is a very endearing character. The point that I particularly liked, and that allowed me to hold on very quickly to this novel is its bold side. He does not hesitate to raise the floor to support the looks, and trying to be heard through this fifty teenagers (and boys), while at the bottom of it, Thomas panic and is totally confused by his amnesia, and the place in which it emerges.
There are many secondary characters - some of which have been particularly their effect. Among them:
Chuck, the little brother of Thomas improvised, is terribly endearing by his apparent innocence, the rest of it stays in her childhood, and inspired by the courage of Thomas.
Newt, and the friendship he felt vis-à-vis Thomas. I enjoyed his presence.
Teresa, the slight feminine touch of romance. She is very present and I found it a pity, because it has a unique personality, which comes out of the ordinary. I would have liked it to be more present, because I think it could make a little extra, that little something missing at the beginning to make it totally irresistible novel - although he is already.
I also loved the personalities of Minho and Gally. Each character has a unique personality, very well worked, to which they remain faithful, and which make them unique. In their entirety, the Blocards (nm Lives Bloc within the Labyrinth.) Are all very endearing, bold, and organized in their small company. These three aspects make their small effect, and it is important how we like them. In addition, they made me think of the lost boys in Peter Pan.
Second highlight: The plot and context
The Labyrinth is a great mix of action and mystery:
The action is the first ingredient, we found very regularly, it will not drag on. I'm not bothered me once: action rhythm which advances the plot rather quickly.
The plot interweaves the action, so that EVERYTHING becomes ultra mysterious: Who is Thomas, what are her memories, where the maze is, how does it work, how can they get out, and What is this too weird beasts ... Tons of questions, so, and I do not even have all the answers.
The title of the first volume of the announcement: this novel is a BIG PUZZLE (yes = Labyrinth puzzle, right?) - It navigates through the pages from one surprise and revelation to revelation. This first volume does not reveal any of this trilogy, fuzzy elements are still very numerous.
But that's not all, on top of that, add suspense, and humor of the characters - especially their irony - that tear a smile, but especially ESPECIALLY a beautiful story of friendship.
There is no romance, but I suspect he arrived for Volume 2.
A word about the context in general, which is extremely well built and very solid. The author has constructed a particular universe, and feels no hesitation about the way it works.
To finish
This first volume is a hanging play, it is hard to let go. The chapters are not very long, this novel is very airy and that is a good thing given the amount of action. Suspense, surprise, anxiety, Labyrinth is very intense, very masculine, and gives new life to dystopia.
