Nothing less, back to lead as a hip-hop youth back to the roots of black blues is the self-imposed mission of Messrs Dan Auerbach (vocals, guitar) and Patrick Carney (drums) - According to its own band Credo.
And let's be honest: How did young people nowadays come with the blues (if at all) in contact? Even if today no longer quite dewy rock dinosaurs like the Rolling Stones or the. AC / DC (and much more. Of course) to rely again on the Blues as a root of all popular music and in between every now and then an own od. At least intrinsically interpreted blues rags off the leash can (be it live or here and there ev. still in the studio), so you have to hold fast that Blues compared to indie, pop, heavy rock, etc. rather modest mass appeal can be granted. Even White Stripes frontman Jack White enjoys rather a kind of "outsider status" (but please understand not wrong), if he - as last - fully surrenders the Blues ... Also a Gary Clark Jr. (just listen to his example, great "Bright Lights") should be allowed to be mentioned at this point!
But so what? Now everything has changed! Or rather, at least since the 2011 published "El Camino" everything is different! The Black Keys are the answer to the gap, the more and more between the old Blue gods (eg Buddy Guy od. The already long since faded Muddy Waters and Co.) and the musical presence aufzuklaffen threatened. With a little to put into words forming ease and naturalness - probably would permeability here the attached vocabulary - shred down the blues rocker boys, as if it were the most natural thing in the world!
And although The Black Keys now for some time successful attempt in this role (the recently published "Turn Blue" is perhaps a bit of an exception because you tend etc. Also a lot of electronics here. Gets to hear) them is with "El Camino" not only commercially an exclamation special succeeded!
Already alone the first 4 tracks - all hits and not least because of the accompanying, partly crazy videos - are figureheads and represent perhaps up to now the most famous song of the duo (the course, the studio is also working with guest musicians) is I'm talking about. calibres "Lonely Boy", "Dead And Gone", "Gold On The Ceiling" and "Little Black Submarines" (but of course, the other tracks on the disc is not to be despised)! Honest: An album like this is to me for some time no longer come - simply GREAT! At the same time (the newly published "Turn Blue" incl.), It is probably the most elaborate to date produced studio work of the Black Keys. "Complicated" in the course comparing two to date in-house catalog albums, not seen as with other contemporary pop / rock albums! But this "effort" has undoubtedly made paid - without exception all of the songs on "El Camino" sound full, round, warm, authentic and full of energy and passion, without any audio engineering defects were detected! High praise thus also for the great production of the disc!
Conclusion: "El Camino" is for me (until now) not only the album of 2011, but already a very strong contender for album of the decade. As the dynamic duo of modern blues is really something quite extraordinary, masterly succeeded! In my view, makes it very clear indisputable 5 stars !!
Many (including myself admittedly it) will have become really aware of "El Camino" on The Black Keys only. But alas, when you get first time begins the other albums to discover little by little for themselves ... Simply fabulous - for music fans there's nothing more beautiful in the world;)
One can only hope that The Black Keys let go on their way unperturbed and not be lulled by some wannabes and / or Einflüsterern. Looking at her career so far, one can such dangers, I think, but confidently banish from his thoughts ... Even the novice ("Turn Blue") has despite its "otherness" his charming moments - listen worthwhile also here in each case!
I am in any case very much to some older Black-Keys-works, which I have recently ordered me via Amazon. FINALLY: The true Renaissance of the Blues has used - the Blues was already so and so never go on forever (just as the root of all popular music and because of the many, many great performers), so is it now a great new era brings - the Black Keys should Thanks !!!!
Or in other words (but then I'm with my wisdom already at the end :)): The timelessness that the Blues was (quite rightly) to date always rumored, is mutated to an endless loop of the present. Therefore: Think up a few Black-Keys-albums, love people and listen and be amazed and dancing and telling eueren friends and acquaintances of them !!
One more thing (then it is but really good): The frequent comparisons to the White Stripes (I really can appreciate) are lagging behind a little in my opinion. Despite similar occupation practice and possibly a similar approach to music, the Black Keys on originality and inspiration not to exceed ... Thus, conclusion.
