For graphics Frank Miller is no longer assisted by Klaus Janson and it shows, the style is not the same, it is no longer as much urban as before, I would say a little messy with all these psychydélique boxes , not perfectly framed, the whole being made to destabilize the reader by representing the large influx of untreated disordered information.
The trait of Frank Miller has worsened, I even find it insulting. The colors of Lynn Varley are not bad and they are also in the sometimes psychedelic.
I feel that in this narrative as in the rest of Frank Miller Batman Year One wanted to add the other heroes of the DC Universe even if it was not necessary to the story.
There are some passages that are found somewhat unhealthy at times, especially those concerning the last enemy confronted by Batman. This work has been made to disrupt us in all our dens, either graphically or even compared to the moral characters. The author shows us that in a world "on the brink" even heroes need to change.
Ultimately this is a story I find bland overall, missing splendor, in which Batman is secondary, the characters slew him being around the héros.L'auteur focusing on a lot of events, one can not take time to appreciate these old / new heroes.
My advice is to sarrêter at the end of Dark Knight Returns and avoid like the plague DK2.
