15 years after DKR, Frank Miller is ready to follow up this monument comics. From the first sequence (Palmer of release), the incredible energy of this story and inventiveness obvious player to never let go for 250 pages. From the beginning, the player is in familiar territory: graphics on the edge of the sketch, sometimes inked designs like with a big marker not accurate, aesthetic style without any concession and TV screens inserts to multiply the points of view and realize the air. From the beginning the reader is baffled: Batman conspicuous by its absence, other superheroes take an important place in history, the colors are very bright and vivid (the opposite of the palette used in the previous volume), boxes are almost devoid of decoration. Frank Miller does as its head and the story will be uncompromising.
Some readers have criticized cranky Frank Miller have changed in tone between the two tomes stamped "Dark Knight". Indeed this artist bursting with creative energy and refuses to do the same again. One can even say that it effectively works to rehabilitate the superhero on which he had spat in DKR. It embraces all the most ridiculous codes starting with the tight tights garish kitsch to the most representative of this population as Plastic Man. He built a story-like ode to all the superheroes of the DC Universe (it is no less than 11 major heroes in this story) to the point that some passages suggest a history of the Justice League. We even see Hawk and Dove pass and 2 appearances Bat-Mite.
Other grumpy criticized his aesthetic choices: loud colors and pencils botched. The color development was performed by Lynn Varley which had already achieved that the DKR. It uses the traditional colors of superhero, fully consistent with the subject of this story. It also assumes creation ex nihilo scenery Frank Miller frankly sacrificed. So he really botched the drawings? It's hard to say and reading it's nothing certain. Actually he favored the effectiveness of boxes an aesthetic round and refined to illustrations. Indeed, acknowledgments include several designers who have it can be given a helping hand. But all sulfur chart does no inconsistency, no rupture of tone, no indecipherable box. The full-page and double page are magnificent. And aesthetic choice is for adults, as history elsewhere.
"The dark knight strikes again" is a dynamic reading, packed superhero, told in the hard tone leather DKR, original and give you back a smile and a peach of hell.
