Long has it been since 1977 when I started to get interested as just for music and with Boney M. "Daddy Cool" on a tape recording (yes, there was something at that time) from the radio up and down heard. In our national newspaper there was then a prize competition with the difficult question of how was the first hit from Boney M.; The prize was LPs from the group and then I sent a postcard with the answer "Daddy Cool" way - and was actually drawn as the winner of a record! (Since then unfortunately never happens to me again ;-). When then came the package, I was amazed first: 3 naked women on the cover, in the background another also not exactly abundant dressed man, and on the back far and wide nothing of "Daddy Cool" or at least "Sunny" (the second single ) to discover. Since I had won the then newly released second LP of the group of producers Frank Farian and was once skeptical. But after 2-3 repeated listening I was reconciled to Boney M .: catchy and varied songs running on my record player and the first LP (Take The Heat Off Me) as soon as possible (as the pocket money allowed) was also acquired. So and now, almost 40 years later, I am - by the repetition of Ilja Richter's "Disco" on the ZDF-culture channel - pushed back to my former favorite band and bought here the CD "Love For Sale". Boney M. never made profound or progressive rock music, but catchy (disco) and pop ballads - but this produces complex and skillfully. The first piece "Ma Baker" (as the third single decoupled) is very similar in structure to "Daddy Cool", but has a much better text and the Arrangement also more sophisticated than the debut single. With "Love For Sale" follows the title track, a cover of Jazz piece by C. Porter, however, skillfully made in typical 70s disco sound. Who the Bee Gees like to "Saturday Night Fever" times, is also like "Love For Sale" by Boney M.. "Belfast" was the second single from the album, some more rock and again with a text that is more demanding and far from "Daddy Cool" or "Baby Do You Wanna Bump". This is followed by another beautiful title, times Disco (Silent Lover), sometimes ballad (Still I'm Sad), a round thing. Only "Gloria, Can You Waddle" can not convince me, for me the only weak point of the album. Unlike "Milli Vanilli" Frank Farian has never done at Boney M. a secret of the fact that the song is actually "only" by himself and the two singers Liz Mitchell and Marcia Barrett comes. The third lady, Maizie Williams and Bobby Farrell the dancers could not sing well enough well and moving only his lips to the playback at performances. The male voice comes from Farian himself, the female voices sing (next Background Studio singers) only Liz and Marcia. However, the are really good: Liz Mitchell's voice goes well with her appearance: Somehow sweet, the good Liz is to try and constantly "hugging". Marcia Barett is a beautiful woman and has a little more pressure in his voice; well here in "Belfast" and "Silent Lovers" to hear. Pity Farian has not granted her more lead vocals in the Boney M.-time. "Love For Sale" brings fond memories of the youth and a group that had a lot more on it than that (even then embarrassing) Herumgehampel of the late Bobby Farrell and ephemera-Tralala-Pop.
