Wow. If I'm honest, a week ago I knew this band produces only by name. With the name Morrissey I could start only slightly. Only in the last few days I sat down properly with the band, which was chosen by NME ahead of the Beatles as the best band of all time, apart. It occurred to me that the band in their five-year creative phase all the stylistic devices used to be included again today by countless bands. For example, Morrissey's melancholy, "elongated" (sorry, you can not manage better express) singing and above all the melodic, brilliant guitar playing of John Marr. What today is walk and add in all the indie bands was something completely new in the 80s. No wonder then that the band until today (especially in Great Britain) absolute enjoys cult status. I myself am actually not that the fans of "indie" and "Britpop" and can with the things that are now sold under the name begin little to nothing. So it is good that the Smiths are still about 1,000 times better than today's Chartbrei. The original is just the best. This compilation is packed with many of the best songs of the band. The first CD constitutes, among other singles and Hammer songs like "Hand In Glove", "This Charming Man", "Still Ill", "How Soon Is Now", etc. On the second (which I find even better) are more likely B-sides and unreleased material as the live versions of "Handsome Devil", "Meat Is Murder" or the demo version of "Pretty Girls Make Graves". For fans that all might have not so interesting because it of The Smiths countless Best-Ofs and what is not everything, but for newcomers, especially for the thinking of today's Britpop was all, is this compilation more than recommended.
