Finally! The game was released, and I have my Christmas present early indulged himself to dive with anticipation in the world, the Star Wars lore.
The launch was also brilliant. Vollvertonte and animated dialogues, decisions for the Light or Dark side ... And at the end of the starting area I defeat an opponent who joins from then on in awe my side. Genial.
That was times. But about level 30 I started skipping the dialogs of the side quests as they disrupted the flow of the game brought more than atmospheric. Because in the end they are constructed to 90% according to the same inscrutable pattern. My decisions do except for a few sympathy points and some items no difference. They are void.
For me, the story is also the weakest point of the game. No matter what class or race I start alternatively. I drive on fixed rails through the same old quests that same planet, the same order. The only difference is the class story. Unfortunately, it makes up about 5% of the overall story. I have a single-player RPG playing feel with optional co-op mode. But no MMORPG.
From level 30 to 50 I had to motivate genuine. It just lacked that feeling ... to see the voltage something new or want to test his new weapon only once extensively. This glance at the clock to see that one only four hours of sleep and remain still happy and tired to fall into bed, because you are completely immersed in the world.
The bad thing is that I can not even tell me why. Maybe at the static world that looks artificial big without that this size is exhausted. Perhaps it is the instantiation of the Worlds. With 90 players on Tatooine, a giant planet, already a new instance is opened. So just come on an MMO Feeling.
The "capital", the fleet conveyed somehow no epic MMO Feeling. I remind you log into WoW and to see the same, whose names are known spammers and flamers chatting. As soon as she wrote something, it sparked epic discussions, of which I have kept the odd screenshot. So it was annoying at times, but it gave a kind of identification to the server, to the community. This feeling is me unfortunately not once in SW: TOR over come.
I am in a universe. But where is my freedom? I have a spaceship that does not individualize and my space combat is a simple matter Rail shooter concept.
At one point I was 50 and in the endgame. After all, the main component of an MMO. Where you spend the most time. And here, too: a sense of emptiness. Here copied the Bioware verhunzte Lich King concept bosses to hunt in different modes. The normal mode is like WoW in LFR so easy that so any epic sense is taken to have achieved something. You press a few buttons and in the worst case wiped once or twice you. Then loot and random token is distributed. Collective cheer in TS, after you've added a Boss after 50 trys? Wrong! It simply lacks throughout the epic feeling. The only epic moment that has remained in my memory, is the landing and my first steps on Korriban, the starting planet.
I'm talking about the soul of a game. The long-term motivation. And I'm not even on the myriad blunders like bugs, UI, performance, unbalanced PvP, input lag or the absolutely meaningless crafting system that allows no functioning economies.
I do not get it!
We are not talking of an unknown studio from Hinterdupfingen. No, we speak of the largest publishers, EA. We speak of a development studio with reputaton, Bioware. And we are talking, not least from the highest budget ever to stand for an MMO available: $ 200 million.
It could have been perfect. EA could pull off the best minds in the industry to create something unique.
Instead, in all respects average or less come around.
I think that's the point that disappointed me the most. This incredible potential of setting and unprecedented in MMO history funds. And the result ....
Objectively is SW: TOR is a "good" game. But it's not brilliant. In no point. It has no uniqueness, no "soul".
Such a pity. After all, a unique opportunity has been missed.
