The soul of piracy

The soul of piracy

Hackers: Forbans, freebooters, buccaneers and other sea beggars (Paperback)

Customer Review

Hackers: these people through the centuries have employed the imagination. The only images we have in Hollywood films are tinted fantasy. However, reading Lapouge we see that very often truth is stranger than fiction. Hackers have a multitude of facets that we are now elusive; at a time when everything must fit in a box and be labeled, tagged, and resists the hacker wants to stay out of the categories.

The book Lapouge is not giving a history book pirates but an identification test of the souls of pirates, their spirit. Why men living in the most developed societies of the time they wanted to trade their daily against a life of adventure?
Often we think that anarchism was born in the nineteenth century in the writings of people like Godwin, Stirner and Proudhon. But when you look more closely do not we consider the pirates as precursors of anarchism? As the first researchers total freedom, revolted against the yoke of the hierarchies of too codified society to their liking?
Because the hacker says Gilles Lapouge is first a rebel who will look elsewhere for what he can not find ahead. He hides away armies and police, in the depths of the ocean to invent them a new freedom.
The author of the text stands over us the portrait of some of these pirates (Misson, Fly, Lewis said Edward Teach Blackbeard) strong eclectic. We then have in front of you an unsuspected diversity of personalities (and communities) sometimes cruel and sometimes generous, immoral or conscious of others. But the pirates do not escape the Order or laws; they have their own course, but these are all the same laws ...

Finally I will say that the force of Gilles Lapouge the book is the writing style that fits perfectly with the epic adventures of pirates. Here, no barbantes explanation of some aspect of piracy but rather a poetic writing and focused on the straying at the discretion of the stories of these characters. In short, a book like the pirates free and without conformity.
