Teddy Pendergrass (born on 26.03.1950) was one of the best singers that has ever existed in the R & B!
He began his career as a drummer with Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, where he quickly became the lead singer and flushed with his velvet voice million $ in the cash register of Harold Melvin. The felt little desire to share, so ended Pendergrass after the album Wake Up Everybody cooperation and began his solo career.
He has never looked back, his fans have remained loyal to him and helped him to a rapid rise in the Olympus of the best black singers of all time this step. He stood there for years next to Marvin Gaye, Al Green, Isaac Hayes, Barry White, Luther Vandross and other unique soul singers until he was stopped at the height of his career shortly before his 32nd birthday on 18/3/82 by a serious car accident.
Pendergrass was henceforth paralyzed from the waist down and confined to a wheelchair. He then still released some successful albums, but was on the great successes of the past (5 consecutive platinum albums!) No longer build. He ended his career in 2006.
Pendergrass was five times nominated for a Grammy as Best Male R & B Artist:
1979 "Close the Door" in 1982 for "I Can not Live Without Your Love", 1989 "Joy", 1992 "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart?" and 1994 for "Voodoo". He has not won a single - he has lost "the mayfly" D'Arby, Luther Vandross and Ray Charles to George Benson, James Ingram, Terence Trent. Against George Benson and Ray Charles I take Teddy's defeat kept them out to the others I say better nothing. Except for "Voodoo" are sämtl. nominated songs on Disc 2 contain.
Many songs from Pendergrass penned the most successful producers of all time hit - the incomparable duo Kenneth Gamble & Leon Huff A..
These two have made the great success of Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, Teddy Pendergrass, The O'Jays, Lou Rawls, Patti LaBelle and many other possible only where they wrote them the right songs on the body.
