This marketing strategy is in the music business has always been common, so you can therefore make Depeche Mode specifically not blame. Every few years they dive to halt in large bands, this "Greatest Hits" and "Best Of" slithers. But Depeche money printing machine is currently running at full speed, the inclined fan must indeed finally (again) to purchase the new editions of the albums from the years 1981-2001. In addition, there are of "Martyr" three pieces of silver and three vinyl discs, also several exclusive downloads on iTunes and other vendors. All this stresses the purse but immensely. Management, label and ribbon are well aware that the DM's publications are bought for the most part of "regular customers" - and they are milked financially tremendously in recent times! The new manager Jonathan Baron Kessler knows just how one rubs money ("A load of money, a lot of money ... tons of money!").
As incentive to buy the reissues of the albums was a great DVD donated. So here, too: The DVD of this set is an absolute must for fans, but it contains for the first time the video for "Just Can not Get Enough", "Everything Counts", "People Are People", "Master and Servant" "Shake The Disease", "Dream On" and "I Feel Loved" in digital form. The actual video of "Martyr" is not included. So you have to buy the DVD single with the clip and extra superfluous, pesky audio tracks. That's called clumsy marketing ... As a collector you slowly get used to it ...
Occasional buyers and newcomers was put fully to heart this compilation, but I have to point out that this album is not for nothing the marked "Volume One" carries. I can not understand why some reviewers here talk of a "representative sample" or that "all hits" are available absolutely! This is simply nonsense.
Finally, here are missing essential songs like "Stripped", "World In My Eyes", "A Question Of Time", "Home", "A Question Of Lust", "Policy Of Truth", "Leave In Silence", "Behind The Wheel "," Little 15 "," Get The Balance Right "," Condemnation "" Blasphemous Rumours "," In Your Room "," Barrel Of A Gun "," Useless "," Free Love "or" A Pain That I 'm Used To ", which determines all on" will be heard Volume Two ".
Ultimately, it is here to judge the music and DVD, and they have just earned only full marks, without a doubt. Criticism of the sales strategy I therefore let not included in my review. The booklet I find uninspiring and unloving, but that's a matter of taste.
