Yes, there she is. The (first) tape of Corey Taylor and James Root: Stone Sour. Corey and James return to their musical roots back before Slipknot and lay the hungry fans a real fillet pieces before. At the very beginning with 'Get Inside' you will be overwhelmed by a combined double-bass attack with a ripping guitar riff. After beating intro the song makes to the end as a pivot and it comes in the Heavy Rock / New Metal / Hardcore corner. Melodic vocals and guitars alternate with Shout Parts and indigestible riffs. Right after the opening track there is a surprise: 'Orchids'. This song stands out above all through sophisticated guitar and vocal melodies. The text is exceptionally well done (which is not always the case with Slipknot). The biggest surprise will be for the listener probably 'Bother'. A very nice (almost pop) ballad. Such a thing has never happened before with Corey Taylor as frontman. On the whole, are Stone Sour musically speaking an entirely different caliber than Slipknot. Stone Sour combine melody with aggression and Wutausbrücken, have well arranged guitars and some very nice basslines. An album with a lot of variety - from ballad to thrashing song and more. For me, a very good, very successful (and surprising) album.
