This was my first book by this author I had seen or heard, and that I found too pedantic. It was by chance, having nothing at hand that I finally read the first page ... and words carried me. I love the richness of these words that denote our daily life, these sentences that one would dream write yourself. The author is both very classic, conservative strand by his knowledge of history and the world, but demonstrated great creative genius. I was afraid of a burial history and yet there has rhythm throughout the book. At the time of planting, the words are accelerating as too full of emotion. I so loved this novel since I do not read as Ormesson: story of a wandering Jew, sea customs, the report Gabriel, a tearful celebration ... there are so many!
