Pavel Leonid Tibor Imre, Werner, Sacha fled Eastern Europe, banished and reprobate, without luggage, painful soul but a heart full of hope. They quarrel violently in their native language and reconcile in French around the board, sharing their true course.
The bistro "Le Balto" is the meeting place chosen by neighborhood youth Denfert Rochereau 'and this club rabid optimists in the back room, Michel, the narrator, from a height of twelve years, managed to slip and passed by this top group colors. Bit by bit, he traces their history.
In parallel, he revives the daily life of his family. The country is recovering just the Second World War. The small French bourgeoisie of fifty-sixty years awakens for consumption.
