Last year, Naxos, gave us the first recordings of symphonies by Brian 22, 23 and 24, by Alexander Walker and New Russia State Symphony Orchestra. Here is yet another superb album from the same source, with the symphonies 28 and 29 which are, and 6 new records and 31.La No.6 is undoubtedly one of the best works of Brian. His equipment was originally designed for an opera that eventually will never creates music treads different way through a sinister nocturnal landscape - at several points, descending arpeggios on the harp and woods to pretend that this is the land evaporated underfoot. The flute chirps with terrifying obsession like crazy bird, and brass lurk as monsters waiting for a chance to spring. Suddenly there is a "fanfare" for flute in itself ineffective, but supported by the authority of aggressive percussion, announcing the pacing dazzling cellos and basses by their smug arrogance. Several advocacy beautiful long melodies introduce human suffering, and in the end, a blowout in the percussion indicates a sustained but cheerfully brutal disaster. La.6eme is like a thriller cleverly planned to keep in mind not without humanity tearing over time.
. Walker's interpretation is beautiful, my only reservation being that Russian trumpets are too typed for my taste .
This is works and really varied but keeps full length (duration is around one quarter of an hour) an amazing consistency that is not without recalling the works of Stravinsky.
