A magnificent novel so told in the first person by the narrator, tomboy between 6 and 9 years in the story it tells. The novel came out in the 60s, in full battle for the rights of black people and American tale of events that the author is at the end of the thirties. Economic crisis and everyday racism meet there but not only, because it is the romance of the awakening of political consciousness and conscience everything short of a brother and a sister, an uncompromising novel about righteousness, the good, the bad and the relativity of these, but one bursting with humor novel (you should have heard me laugh all alone on the train!) and very anchored in reality.
unclassifiable by the diversity of subjects.
I had heard as advocacy for the cause of black Americans, but it is actually much more than that.
The version I read is very recent (less than two years) and the translation has been particularly careful to try to lose nothing of the meaning of the book. I think it is worth it, and I hope that this beautiful book, studied in many countries, will find its place in France
Finally, just to meet Nadia, in the first chapter, the narrator suggests that these are past events, it is older when ... says (and I intend to read it in English too !!)
