Although my BluRay player has a coaxial output and can thus be connected to the amplifier, but many devices like mobile phones and tablets give their sound from just over HDMI.
Here the switch comes into play: The HDMI picture is perfectly transmitted to the projector, no problems with HDCP.
But at the same time I can tap the sound analog and digital, and send to the amplifier.
+ Not only PCM via S / PDIF possible but also some 5.1 sound formats
+ Analog signal always available
+ No problems with HDCP or different resolutions
+ Sound also can be tapped when the projector / monitor is completely off
+ No discernible synchronicity problems between image and sound
- No automatic switching if source 1 not active must be changed manually
- When source change: faster image available, but can sound a half to one second need
- Inputs and outputs on 3 sides of the device distributed: On the side will always see out cable
