The album is one of the masterpieces of the band and their first album which is rather the progressive rock as the genre Metal / Hard Rock assign. Overall, often underestimated in strong competitors in its own home, for example the Rush albums "2112" or "Hemispheres". Although the album contains some simple rock songs - including the classics and live Pops: "Closer to the Heart" - it contains with "Cygnus X-1" and "Xanadu" two absolute top longtracks. In "A Farewell to Kings" Rush was the first time really complex and the keyboards play the first time a major role. The Mini-Moog was new and brought spacey sounds in the music of Rush. Stylistically, I find the album very akin to the successor "Hemispheres" of "La Villa Strangiato" yet it sets up a gear with genius. Allen Hard Rock fans and fans of 70s progressive rock highly recommended.
