The filter pump:
is in the flow rate regulated and that with a small rotary lever on the pump housing. The pump is at maximum, possibly for shrimp, the flow could be a bit too strong. After the run-in phase I will put the pump on 1/2. I think that's enough. The pump runs quietly and without AC hum. The pump can be heard though, but we do not feel the faint sound as disturbing.
The filter:
is equipped with mesh bag with ceramic tubes, with foam cartridge roughly with foam / squeezed Filterwatte fine. There remains plenty of room for example, a carbon filter bag (If you want) for the Aquaclaer 20 (this fit exactly) should inflict.
Lighting:
LED lamp with 4 blue LED (night light) and 2 pieces of orange LED in addition to the many white LED. the lamp can be made extremely flat and then the Orion 40 is super illuminated. The lamp has an extra connector and can be operated with a timer. However, only the preset via a switch of illumination, that is day or night. Personally, I find the lighting very well.
The Aquarium:
is made of glass, the filter chamber is made of plastic, the pump will disappear in the air box as well as the filter material. Outputs for the cable of the pump are the right and left available. The aquarium cover is connected of clear plastic with handle hole and joints with the filter box cover. The cover can, after folding up the lamp, be lifted.
What had occupied me before buying:
The dimensions of the Orion 40 are 40 x 23 x25 cm (BXT x H), but how big is the usable floor area? Here the dimensions: 33 x 23 cm, the filter box is 7 cm wide.
I can give a strong buy recommendation here!
Addendum of 02/01/2015
From today's perspective, I would buy this aquarium again, but I am angry at myself that I have not spent 10 euros more and the aquarium have with heating in the set, ordered. The replacement of a heater is more expensive. Because the heater can be housed in the filter box, it is also not so easy to find a suitable heater. Suitable and sufficient eg Aquael would Heating 25 Watt. The set is easy to find, easy to specify: with heating element.
