Dead Souls (Paperback)

Customer Review

If you do need to read Russian novels that 3 of your life, I suggest you not to forget "Dead Souls".
Through the tribulations picaresque Chichikov, a wheeler bourgeois who dreams of nobility, Gogol depicts some "Russian soul" alive one, misguided soul Junker of Imperial Russia in the 19th century.
Chichikov travels the countryside in order to propose to the landowners to redeem the souls of the dead serfs since the last census, but for which must continue to pay tax, capitation, until the next census.
The owners are so surprised and happy to sell these "ghosts" that generate unnecessary costs.
Of course Tchitchikov has an idea behind the head .....
The genius of Gogol, his imagination (because nobody believes that he actually crossed Russia to write his novel) gives us a memorable story, bursting with images, bold and modern metaphors.
Cruel joke, repeatedly readjusted by censorship, possessive work that will destroy the soul and health of Gogol, absolute masterpiece of world literature.
