It rumbles and crashes! It is grooving and rocking! It is quiet and Wave-ig? Black Francis and his wife Violet Clark did with "Petits Fours" a record that already reminiscent of the good old days of the Pixies, just not quite as "different" as the Pixies have always been, not so inclined, maybe not so unique but an absolute, cool "indie" music that is here definitely. Some of the songs (such as Fort Wayne) would not interfere in a row with "Monkey Gone To Heaven", "Wave Of Mutilation", "Gigantic" or "Bone Machine". You would fit in great. Then there's also songs that (it is a coincidence or not?) From time to time produce a piece of synthesizer. And at the beginning of "Black Suit" sounds good Black Francis a bit like Andrew Eldritch of the Sisters Of Mercy, so that the album brings to life a bit back the 80s. Surprising? I do not care, everything fits.
As long as Frank Black continues to bring out those albums, with loud guitars, noisigen guitars, acoustic guitars, a lot of "Pixie-cry" and the vocals of his wife, barely missing a combo but his 80s. Too high? Well, maybe ;-) Only the synths are not absolutely necessary.
