As now used by Pink Floyd is a concept album. Man is divided into three categories: dog, pig and sheep. For each category, just one song, besides two short pieces that initiate and conclude the album. Here, the men than ever present to Gilmour and Waters so dirty and earthy. Gone are the days of the spherical rocks, and many will already indicated to Animals, which is later completed on The Wall.
If you want to describe the album without words, a glance at the now legendary album cover. It captures the dirty, rough atmosphere of the album perfectly.
Waters' lyrics are so cynical and brilliant as ever. If again no such distinctive guitar solos are included, such as in "Time" or later "Comfortably Numb," Gilmour unfolds here an immense force, his guitar laments and drives the songs, he has never played better.
# 1 Pigs On The Wing Pt. 1 - acoustically, sparingly orchestrated, initiates the album
# 2 Dogs - concentrated 17 Minutes, ingenious lyrics, splendid, torturing guitars and a grand finale
# 3 Pigs - Schweinegrunzen directs this wonderfully cynical piece of a, great bass
# 4 Sheep - quiet it begins, Wright running in top form, they unleash a hurricane
# 5 Pigs On The Wing P1. 2 - turn acoustic, with a glimmer of hope runs the album
Animals represents the rough, cynical and uncomfortable Pink Floyd. No spherical Synfonien but still unmistakably Floyd, technically superior, it sounds today powerful and fresh. A wrongly underestimated, mercilessly good album.
