This album is both commercially and musically or "artistic" a milestone. Faith No More hold here, in contrast to the follow-up album, the balance between the styles, not only in the album as a whole, but also within the songs. (When "Easy" involves) Three ballads ("RV", "Midnight Cowboy", "Easy") and three battered metal numbers ("Malpractice", "Caffeine" and "Jizzlobber") form the musical extremes. In between, the rest either moving towards rock or sweet groove, which usually both are in different proportions. In addition, all garnished with original ideas, eg cheerleading singing with "Be Aggressive" or Shostakovich Sample at "Malpractice" (played by Kronos Quartet). Sometimes moments come through that spread a certain ethno-Feeling ("Midlife Crisis" and "Smaller and Smaller").
Very nice is in addition to the matching of music texts of the use of each instrument or singing. No one comes up short in Faith No More. A very varied and interesting rock album!
