I am an avid racer and have already gambled everything on all current consoles. So I can say with complete justification that I have enough experience to allow me an opinion. Have MNRacer gambled about 20 hours and I think that's enough for a conclusion. (Offline and online)
ModNation Racer is a nice fun, no more but also no less. The big selling point is the inexhaustible possibilities to modify its driver and car. This makes eerie mood, holding a first time at the bar. The track editor is great too, but has not captivated me personally.
Ansich now to the core of a racing game, namely the race. For a kart racer, the game is just too lame. The controls are more than used to and really quite schwamig. The drift is more of a round-the-corner-jumping, but wems like. :-) The powerups that you can collect on the track are by now common method, so nothing out of the ordinary. On the contrary, there are simply too few different powerups.
Offline, the game is far too easy for experienced racers, but too difficult (control) for newcomers. There is practice, practice and practice. :-) What at do not Racer is OK, that is the vexing rubber band effect. You can drive like a champion, but the AI opponents are always near.
Online makes it even a lot more fun, because the elastic effect of driving is gone offline. But even here there are better alternatives like the other points.
Finally, the load times. So I really do not know why there almost a minute must be loaded before each race. The graphics are not super spectacular and otherwise I can think of no good reason. Other racers, such as MotorStorm, Blur, Split / Second will need only half as long, with better graphics and partly more participants. The load times are also ultimately the reason why I have only borrowed the game and will not buy. Perhaps when working on the loading times and it costs only 30 euros.
Conclusion:
Modification options: Kind and good, but if that's important to me, rather then Little Big Planet
Race: 0815 Kart not come close to Mario. On the PS3, there are no good alternatives kart, but who wants kart for adults should definitely Blur set up. This is currently the best online racing game. More powerups, more enemies, better control, significantly shorter loading times ...
Charging times: Worse gehts never. In 2010, we and not 2005 or even earlier.
I find the idea great, but the implementation of some sloppy. Therefore, benevolent yet !! 3 stars, rather the slope to 2 stars.
