Installation was straightforward: USB, video and audio plug it, install the driver and utility program, restart computer and off you go with the record of the first test sequences.
Unfortunately, it turns out quickly that the recording utility is not really usable. It offers only rudimentary functionality and which in my view is the worst: you only have the choice between a few predefined recording profiles. If you want to create high-quality recordings, then you have to use the DVD-profile (with MPEG2 compression), because only this profile supports the full video resolution of 720 x 576 pixels (otherwise, there is SVCD with 480 x 576 pixels and AVI, MP4 and WMV with only 352 x 288 pixels).
The DVD-profile needed to instructions per hour about 2.6 GB of space. With me about 4GB generated actually in an hour, after which it came to the program because of a canceled each codec error.
The included Ulead Video Studio SE is completely useless for shooting as it breaks every few seconds with an error message. If you look at this short clip, you'll see, however, what the hardware would actually be capable. These clips look really good !!
When you finally switches to another program to record (in my case, the well-tried VirtualDub), then you have indeed free access to all possible resolutions up to 720 x 576 pixels and all available on the computer codecs (I like to use XVID) but you get another problem: The grabber is recognized as a video device, but you do not have access to audio, so you can only produce silent films.
Here, however, the possibility remains, at the Audio Grabber past the line-in to connect directly to the notebook.
My Conclusion:
The grabber is suitable for beginners who can quickly get results with the simple recording utility and the predefined recording profiles or for people who are satisfied with the predefined profiles.
But who even want to lend a hand to achieve the best possible result, which should be better to purchase another product or at least use another program to create the recordings.
Must be mentioned as negative points:
- The driver is not MS-Certified
- Crashes when recording
- Audio not appear in the Windows Mixer
- Bundle software does not really fit to the hardware
