But what about me extremely negative attention, is the operator. Which is - in my eyes - simply unintuitive (and I see myself as a tech-savvy person to):
After the first turn the meter course I first tested the playback of music. How convenient that the Denon AirPlay support. So iPhone rausgeholt and played music. Here the first surprise: no bass. The subwoofer does not seem to be used.
After some puzzles and reading the manual, I then found out that the receiver has different sound modes: Movie, Music, Game and Pure. By default, "Pure" is activated, which is probably the audio signal 1-to-1 transmits to the boxes. The means well (my guess) that a stereo signal (2.0) is only output on the left and right speakers. Did I also hear bass, it would probably be a 2.1 signal (and are apparently not MP3). So changed to "Music". Ahh, the subwoofer is not so defective.
Changing the sound mode would have to cope with yet. But as is the case with the different input channels (of which there are, for example, 16 DVD, Blu-ray, Game, Aux, ...)? Remembers the Denon sound mode for each input channel? And what about the rest of the settings (dialog-level subwoofer output level, dynamic range compression,)? Remembers the Denon these per channel (desirable)? Or are the same for all input channels? Resolution: There is one thing, then that way. This is the menu but not recognizable. You have to pay the manual consult (though I am not convinced that the information is always correct there).
Speaking of settings: these, there are many real (manual p.101 / 102). However, many of them only in certain sound sub-modes available - each Sound Mode (except Pure) has them again 6 or 8 (for example, there are at Music: "Stereo", "Dolby PLII", "DTS NEO: 6", .. .).
Oh yes: There is, incidentally, the unit four so-called QUICK SELECT buttons. According to the manual, you can save with this combination of input channel, volume and sound mode. Super; Only problem is that it only directly on the device are not these buttons on the remote control. That is to change (for example, between Apple TV and Blu-ray Player) you have to but boots the device.
Annoying is also: The sound often seems mainly to come from the Center? Why? Or Why do I have to tell the receiver only that it should also use the other speakers? Why is there no meaningful factory defaults?
All in all, one can already live with the device somehow to get it but hingefuddelt. The road is very rocky but without manual did not get far.
Update: I have now read the reviews on the other AV receiver that Amazon still offers so. Significant deficiencies in the operating concept, it seems to be in all devices. That said, I'm happy with the Denon and will therefore keep it well as a lesser evil.
