I have the iPod for several years and use it with Rockbox. So he can play FLAC and all possible formats. He has enough memory and has with Rockbox incredibly good sound. The equalizer of the original firmware is bad and sher overridden mercilessly (that is not due to the headphones), while Rockbox provides numerous settings, including a self-adjustable EQ, which is not overridden.
