Since the camera was always treated with care, I walked out of an unambiguous warranty claim and sent the camera directly to the Canon Service Center Willich.
The more astonished I was when my 14 days later an estimate fluttered into the house, with the note that it would be a "sand damage" which would not be covered under warranty. For the repair almost the currently current original price of the camera has been estimated. Alternatively, was offered the camera to be disposed at Canon or unrepaired return it with costs.
I chose the latter, and now I have a 4 months old camera has no function that I can only use it as a paperweight!
Mind you, the camera was on vacation at various walks with it, but was always tucked between shots in bag / backpack and handled with care. She's never liked or similar in the sand!
It is in the nature of things, that is present at outdoor use from time to time, a dust or Sandkrümelchen. If such Krümelchen but so easily penetrate into the camera and may result in a total loss, is in my opinion a blatant design deficiency (lack of waterproofing) - such a camera is simply not suitable for everyday use.
Anyone who wants to take this camera not only in the handbag to the Opera Ball, but use under real outdoor conditions, I can therefore only strongly advise against the purchase!
And those who think that it is in the described by me case a rare exception, I recommend times for "Canon" and "Lens Distortion", "Lens Error" or "E18" (ie the error message with older camera models) to google. There are entire websites that exclusively deal with "E18".
Concern for the manufacturer and for me the last camera that I bought from Canon.
