I discovered this author completely by chance at Merle Thrasher celebrates Books from Père Lachaise. I was looking for a long novel from one month trip, and I came across this "compilation" of 4 stories Jonquet. Each of them is highly successful in its own way, and one can only bow before the tortured imagination and stylistic fluency of the author. It deals with difficult topics (torture, pedophilia, kidnapping, child trafficking etc.) without any complacency or voyeurism. His characters are very endearing or detestable perfectly. His stories, though qu'incroyables, however, are entirely made credible; some also mixing fiction to history ("The Orpailleurs"). I especially liked "Moloch". Note that "Mygale" was adapted by Almodovar for his film "The Skin I Live". Jonquet is undoubtedly a master of the genre which I will hasten to acquire other novels.
