The idea behind the purchase was that I could also buy the device for converted twice read errors on the shop floor.
Said and done ...
First, the choice should fall on one of the very cheap devices with error code and the necessary translation manual / and tables, but I was after a little research on the Creader V attentive.
Reading without tables ... Integrated vehicle database ... No additional power supply via batteries needed ... live diagnosis with Freeze function ... Everything integrated in the device and self-explanatory ... Exactly what I was looking for.
The marginally higher price did not deter, after all, we still speak of a favorable OBD device.
As the device is recognized, at first I was shocked. Everything in English and the serial number was not where it was repeatedly announced by the manufacturer. Super - equipment bought in England and then also one with no serial number ... So bad it was not, fortunately. The serial number is on the back of the device (although they have written to safety in the operating instructions, because I do not quite trust the durability of the label) and the unit can be switched (by registration) in German after the update by the manufacturer.
Error I had initially not read the vehicle (yes was only recently the friendly), but one wants to still test the functions - ie from the car.
The device will immediately after connection to the OBD port and it seems a self-explanatory menu.
Read errors and delete it with a few clicks on the big buttons (probably seem to be the most used function, hence the quasi automatic navigation go there). The device ansich reacts somewhat sluggish on navigation commands and treat yourself every now and then a little pause between successive interactions - but I have also purchased a favorable reader and no gaming PC.
The live diagnosis and actual value detection works, depending on the CAN system and vehicle support also (with me were some menu items not supported by the vehicle) but is, for the Unversed users more of a rather handsome gimmick than a useful skill. Personally, I do not know what saturation is running at the moment my engine. Sensible points as cooling water temperature, speed, speed, throttle position, etc. are also on board.
It makes sense to diagnose is the Freeze function that reads an image of the parameters in the error state, because not every error is always the same clear and may have to be searched for certain states and similarities.
Eventually dipped my friend of mistakes again and I was curious to see what the machine said it. Angestöpselt and the fault memory left.
Initially, only a five-digit numerical code cryptic dive on the display (which can, incidentally, also look up in a database on the manufacturer's website), with the note so that it is a vehicle-specific error code. After that (automatically) follows the navigation to the manufacturer database and selection. After selecting Volkswagen (was a bit annoying, because at the end of the list and image jumps can not the device) has been delivered to me the error text for the numeric code. The comparison with the read-out log from the friendly was a match. Deleted error and warning light off. Wonderful, so I wanted to.
The device has now Duch repeated reading and erasing already paid and I do not regret the purchase.
However, it is important to note that the device is limited to diagnosis of the engine control unit and everything that has to do with the engine warning light. Error in braking and airbag system can not handle the device unfortunately. Reprogramming of (convenience) functions is also not possible. This is also as defined and provided by the manufacturer.
Because the price now is becoming more favorable for the Creader V, anyone who wants a cheap device purchase for reading, should consider whether it is not the ten to 20 more invested to buy the Creader V, instead of with tables and manuals handle. In circle there is such a device, and although initially the bill even deceptive: in the long run, the search in the table by the code but on the nerves ;-)
Summary:
+ Easy handling
+ Self-explanatory menu
+ Updates for free and easy to install via included USB cable
+ Favorable purchase price
+ No additional power supply / batteries required
Carry + user manual for code
- Creaking plastic
- Bulky housing
- Sometimes a bit sluggish response to keystrokes
