At the moment, our friend EJ draws again through our beautiful republic. Like nearly every summer last. Giving his fans something truly. Almost like an old acquaintance. It is never boring.
This album here dates back to 1975, one of the 5 best years of rock history (Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Roxy Music, Queen, David Bowie can greet). And it was second to "Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy" EltonŽs LP in said year.
The album at the time was partly good reviews in reputable media. And a No.1 in the US Billboard charts, it was well. But it does not count as one of the most popular and best of the key master. Hardly anyone among his faves.
Therein lies a certain charm. Also with me it sparked quite late. But it sparked! It is a very rocking, dense album with virtually no loss. Highlights at first glance, of course, the Caribbean-inspired "Iceland Girl" and the bonus track "Breaking My Heart DonŽt go", strictly speaking, not in the music scale, was later released as a single and falls on no regular Elton record. I'm interested in and enthusiastic about the driving, "I feel like a Bullet", "Street Kids" and "Feed me" much more. For this purpose the opener "Medley: Yell help ...", really nice rock.
I have never experienced playing Elton is one of the music pieces on one of his gigs. Why I do not know. Whether he himself does not like to be part of? Or holds the pieces for concert not compatible? He occasionally plays a surprise, such as "Grey Seal" (GYBR) last week in Oberhausen. But "Rock of the Westies" is suppressed.
What's left to say: To EltonŽs band then also included James Newton Howard, known to many from some athmospärischen movie soundtracks.
Good timeless atmospheric LP from the endless treasure chest of Mr.Reginald! Traut Euch!
