So, there are currently Verbatim DVD + R blanks with 4.7 GB and DL 8.5GB capacity in issue, which are not compatible with older DVD or BluRay burners without current firmware support (in this case not with my LG GH24NS50 are compatible). For comparison, I've Verbatim DVD + R blanks, which earlier production date are (at the present me with a spindle Copyright Seal of 2007) and can be wonderfully burn with the LG GH24NS50. The remainders of optical storage media seem to be great at the (Amazon-) dealers. Even my Two years old LG GH24NS90 with the latest firmware of 2012, problems with the new DVD + R 4.7GB Verbatim blanks. But my BluRay burner LG BH10LS38 with the latest firmware 1:03 2013 has no problems with the new blanks (4.7 GB and 8.5 GB) Verbatim. It is very likely that Verbatim has begun this new blanks until 2011 in the Mitsubishi works (yes, Verbatim is a trading name) to produce. I tried e-mail recently Verbatim Germany to know why they have the quality of the DVD + R blanks changed or how they say it "to new technologies adapted". But Verbatim keeps a low profile and only refers to the fact that older burner drives (3 years or more) are not reference, although older drives do not have problems with Verbatim blanks that appear to have been made before 2011. You have probably come to terms with the idea to take a time to buy a new burner drive into consideration, so that one of the new versions of blanks also adapts. Whether this is an improvement of the quality of the next-generation DVD + R blanks, is rather doubtful. One must remain in a situation precisely. Finally, I would like to point out that the production in 2011 is only an estimate of the change in the quality of the blanks. The adjustment of the quality of the blanks takes place every few years, presumably in order to save production costs. I have written also Stiftung Warentest, to indicate the change in quality of Verbatim DVD + R DL 8.5GB with the Test Seal Good in Issue 08/2008, but the reader support of Stiftung Warentest writes only that this Testseal only up / applies to the production in 2013. The constant adaptation of Verbatim / Mitsubishi the burning characteristics of these blanks seems Stiftung Warentest to care, although the test seal in Issue 08/2008 presupposes a constant quality and burning characteristics of the blanks.
