The CPU is the performance at the level of an Intel Core i7-4770K @ 3.5GHz or Intel Core i7-4790 CPU @ 3.60GHz (+/- 2%). Typically, these models cost about 40-50 more. If you like me, does not plan to overclock your computer and requires no integrated GPU, this CPU is noticeably cheaper the price / performance ratio.
Benefits:
- Low price
- A lot of power
- Slightly lower energy consumption / waste heat compared to the Core i7 models.
- No integrated / unnecessary GPU / graphics unit
- Future-proof as the Core i5 models (as 4 + 4 virtual cores / HT)
Disadvantages:
- Perhaps the lack of GPU when you need them. In most cases, is likely to sit in the PC with the powerful CPU but also a decent graphics card.
- Older motherboards with socket 1150 may require a BIOS update / compatibility should be checked before purchase.
(I have the Gigabyte GA-H97-D3H board with the Xeon in operation)
- Worse Boxed cooler (as with all boxed CPU's from Intel) - if the computer is to work quietly, recommends itself
separate cooler
Alternative: The Intel Xeon @ 3.4GHz 1231V3 boxed processor, depending on the current market situation, this CPU is to have relatively inexpensive with a barely noticeable difference in performance on this model (only 100 Mhz)
