The ghost ship is the first of ten major operas of Richard Wagner. There were several conductors who have interpreted this masterpiece but I would say that unless you not like interpretations of Karajan, this version is a listen. The singers are brilliant, captivating the choir and the orchestra carries this opera in a big way.
I had the opportunity to see this opera in English and I find that interpretation was at the height of the recording of Karajan. It seems to me that playing operas and especially the ghost vaiseau Wagner orchestral requires some strength and a sustained tempo.
Happy listening.
