The Nikon P7100 (28-200 mm) I bought in the summer of 2012 as a replacement for my bridge camera Panasonic FZ8 (36-430 mm), which had blessed by a fall the temporal. I would describe myself as ambitious clippers who enjoys photographing nature, family and our dog. Although I was a bit skeptical, especially because of the relation to the Panasonic clearly smaller zoom range, my conclusion is now after 9 months is very positive. Below is a list of positive and negative points: + Image quality: At first I was skeptical because of z. T. very different assessments, z. B. to yellowish to bright green, poor auto white balance. After more than 6500 photos, I find the images up to ISO 400 good to very good, this is especially true for macro shots. Compared to my FZ8 much better when it comes to noise behavior and colors. For the colors I use the standard setting. Overall, the automatic white balance provides for different lighting conditions good to very good colors, although he did not always sit one hundred percent. The fact that the camera tends to a slight overexposure, has been mentioned several times. + Operation: The predominantly good reviews I can only confirm this. Many things can be directly, without detours through the menu, adjust quickly. In the F1 key I put AWB1, also in combination with the front wheel, the Active D-Lighting. In the F2 key the neutral density filter. + Folding Monitor: Very good with a very fine view. Compared with a swivel monitor the better solution, because for a much more stable and for others at all times ready to go. In addition, it does not interfere with the handling, since it does not laterally protrude from the camera. That a swivel monitor offers more ways to get over is good in my opinion. + Active D-Lighting: At first I was somewhat skeptical about this option. Meanwhile, I am very pleased with this opportunity to correct strong image contrasts with it. Many photos are so natural and harmonious, as dark areas are brightened slightly. I use basically only the position Low. However, if one wants to create conscious strong light-dark contrasts, you should turn it off. - Overexposure: Unfortunately, with 0.0 lit photos always something overexposed why z. B. grass is in this case actually presented with a too-bright green. Normal exposed photos obtained with 0.3 or 0.7. When using Active D-Lighting, the images are anyway somewhat brightened, then this is usually sufficient 0.7. One can thus indeed arrange, but user-friendly would be at 0.0 correctly exposed photos. - White Balance Cloudy: Why is the white balance for cloudy not next to the white balance for sun? You have to skip at least 4 other settings to land on Cloudy. In my eyes, daylight settings should lie side by side. - Protective lens: So just the automatic bladed shutter is also, it seems to be too sensitive to me in the long run. For this reason I bought an additional fixed lens cover which provides better protection. Conclusion: For a compact camera, the Nikon offers many possibilities of configuration, a very good handling and in good to mediocre lighting conditions, good to very good image quality. I use them as take-along camera, for which she is really ideal. Perfect is not a camera, the P7100 does not, but with its quirks I've gotten very good arranges me. From me it gets 5 stars.
