If you have installed a lens hood (z. B. the 70-200 f4L), then you can so the lid again put on really well and lose weight. That did not go so well with the old lid.
Without lens hood, I would prefer the old cover, as it is about 2mm flat and felt even less susceptible to "popping" in the bag.
